Thinking it might be the timing chain and/or tensioners. It's now back apart and i. If it's loosening and tightening depending on where the cam is clocked, it almost sounds like the end of the cam is bent or the gear isn't seated correctly.

And They Are Not The Same And Neither Are The Tensioners Itself.

On the 4.7 liter dodge engine there are 2 chain tensioners an upper drivers side and lower passenger side one. Calling dodge to find this tool well, at lest parts dont carry it.

After Digging Around, I Found The Right Side Timing Chain Was Making The Noise, So I Bought A New Timing Chain And Put It Back Together, But It's Still Got The Same Noise.


It's now back apart and i. 2012 ram 4.7 lower timing chain tensioner issues. You may have a secondary timing chain loose.

Chasing An Oil Leak, I Started By Changing Out The Rocker Cover Gaskets.


Could be a rod bearing. Fyi, here's a picture of the timing system on a 4.7. It sounds like a lifter not getting oil up to it or a weak lifter.when you first start up a cold engine most of the oil is in the oil pan.after you start up the engine the oil has to go from the oil pan to the rockers and lifters and such.you said it quiets down after it warms up.i don't.

Sounds Like A Bad Rod/Wrist Pin.


Has good oil pressure, no leaking from engine. A few weeks ago i pulled the valve covers and replaced all of the lifters with melling brand ones. But i replaced them and noise still there.

Trying To Get A Little Bit More Info On My Effed Up 4.7.


You could also have a bad tensioner so i would change them while you're in there. Anyway, i pulled the valve covers today (holy shit these. According to the manual, you need to have a wedge tool to keep the timing chain tensioners secured so as not to allow them to extend and force you to have to remove the timing chain cover.
